All about gold: tests, markings and choosing the perfect gold for wedding rings
Gold is not only a noble metal, but also a symbol of prestige, durability and love. That is why it is the most frequently chosen material for creating wedding rings and wedding jewelry.
At KiANIT, we work only with the highest quality gold, we comply with international standards of tests and offer our clients the best conditions for purchasing and making gold jewelry.
⸻
What is a gold test?
The gold test determines the content of pure gold in the alloy and is expressed in per mille. For example, if the alloy contains 58.5% pure gold, its test is 585.
The most popular gold tests
Test 1, also called 960 – contains 96.0% gold.
Test 2, also called 750 – contains 75.0% gold.
Test 3, also called 585 – the most frequently chosen test in Poland and Europe, contains 58.5% gold.
Fineness 4, also called 500 – contains 50.0% gold.
Fineness 5, also called 375 – contains 37.5% gold.
Fineness 6, also called 333 – contains 33.3% gold.

You can also express the gold content in carats:
🔸 24 carats – fineness 999 (theoretically 100%, in reality 99.9%).
🔸 22 carats – 916 fineness.
🔸 18 carats – 750 fineness.
🔸 14 carats – 585 fineness.
🔸 10 carats – 417 fineness.
🔸 9 carats – 375 fineness.
🔸 8 carats – 333 fineness.
💡 At KiANIT we offer wedding rings made of 585 gold (14K), because it provides the best balance between purity, strength and durability.
⸻
Why is jewelry not made of pure gold?
🔹 Pure gold (999 fineness, 24K) is a very soft metal.
🔹 Jewelry made of 100% gold is susceptible to deformation, scratches and loss of shape.
🔹 To increase durability, silver, copper, nickel or palladium are added to the gold alloy.
💎 585 (14K) gold is an ideal choice for jewelry – it provides shine and durability, while being strong enough for everyday wear.

How to read markings on gold?
Every piece of jewelry made of precious metals must have a hallmark that confirms its authenticity. The following markings are used in Poland:
✔ Knight’s head – means gold jewelry.
✔ Woman’s head – means silver jewelry.
✔ Horse’s head – means platinum jewelry.
✔ Dog’s head – means palladium jewelry.
The hallmark also includes a designation of the place of testing:
📍 B – Bydgoszcz
📍 G – Gdańsk
📍 H – Chorzów
📍 K – Kraków
📍 Ł – Łódź
📍 P – Poznań
📍 W – Warsaw
📍 W – Wrocław
📍 Cz – Częstochowa
⸻

How to check the authenticity of gold at home?
If you have doubts about the authenticity of gold, you can perform a few simple tests:
✔ Density test – gold is heavier than most metals, so a real item will be much heavier than a fake.
✔ Sound test – if you drop a gold item on a hard surface, it will make a clear, metallic sound.
✔ Magnetic test – gold is not magnetic, so if jewelry attracts a magnet, it is not gold.
💡 At KiANIT, we offer a gold testing service and exchange your gold for new jewelry.
⸻
What is white gold?
White gold is created by adding nickel, palladium or manganese to the alloy. It has a neutral, silvery shade, which is often emphasized by rhodium plating – the rhodium coating gives the jewelry a shiny shine and additional protection against scratches.
💎 At KiANIT, we use white gold coated with rhodium, which makes the jewelry more resistant to dulling and wear.
⸻
Why does gold from different countries have a different shade?
Gold mined in different countries can have different shades:
✔ African gold – more yellow.
✔ Australian gold – closer to white.
✔ Russian gold – often has a slightly pink shade due to the addition of copper.
💡 At KiANIT, we work with certified suppliers and guarantee that our gold meets international quality standards.
⸻
What gold grade to choose for wedding rings?
The choice of gold grade for wedding rings depends on:
✔ Durability – the higher the grade, the softer the metal.
✔ Color – yellow, white or pink gold.
✔ Personal preferences – classic or non-standard designs.
💍 At KiANIT, we recommend 585 (14K) gold for wedding rings, because it is the best balance between durability, purity and aesthetics.
